A fire broke out aboard a vessel after it was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Sunday. UKMTO said it received the initial report of the incident at 2300GMT on Saturday, without specifying the exact time the vessel was struck. The maritime authority initially said the status of the crew, the extent of damage to the vessel and any environmental impact were unknown. In an update issued Sunday, UKMTO said a fire had broken out aboard the vessel following the reported attack. Local authorities were at the scene and assisting in evacuating crew members, it added.
