澳大利亚极右翼领导人保利娜·汉森9月14日因将本国原住民描述为“地球上最原始的种族”而引发众怒。

多年来，汉森一直是政治圈外人，但民调显示，她领导的“单一民族党”今年异军突起，成为该国最受欢迎的政党之一。

在去年的一次播客访谈中，这位昆士兰州参议员被问及学校教授澳大利亚原住民历史的问题。这次访谈9月14日被媒体再次翻出。

她说：“他们在这个国家做了些什么？据称有6万年之久。他们从来没有发明过轮子。那里什么都没有。我们到底在坚持什么？一些岩画。抱歉，他们是地球上最原始的种族。他们一事无成。”

汉森的言论迅速招致谴责，该国原住民事务部长马拉恩迪里·麦卡锡称其“完全是种族主义”且“令人愤慨”。

同为原住民后裔的参议员贾辛塔·南皮金帕·普莱斯也表示她“感到失望”。

“我相信所有正派的澳大利亚人都会谴责这样的言论，并且理所当然地会对这些话出自一个政党领袖之口感到震惊，”她在脸书上说。

“宝琳·汉森提出的一些问题确实是严肃的辩论议题，其中许多我也曾大声疾呼过，但汉森参议员又一次将对话拖入了令人震惊的境地。”原住民的祖先在这片大陆上生活了六万多年，他们的平均预期寿命比其他人口短约八年。

Several factors contribute to the disparity, with chronic health issues, higher poverty rates, more limited access to healthcare in some communities and complex socio-economic causes often blamed. Indigenous people are also far more likely to be incarcerated or die in custody than other Australians. Hanson's history of inflammatory and racist comments have done little to dent her party's popularity. An opinion poll conducted by Resolve Strategic on behalf of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers released Sunday showed 27 per cent of Australians would vote for her party - just one percentage point away from the ruling Labor Party.
