Colombian lawmakers greenlit a 16% increase in government spending for next year, a budget that alarmed investors already nervous about the nation’s growing debt burden. Congressional economic committees approved the government’s proposal for a 635 trillion-peso ($204 billion) in spending for 2027. The finance ministry says that much of the increase is simply due to recognizing spending commitments omitted by the previous government in areas including health care, energy and pensions.
