KINSHASA, Congo — A boat heading from Tanzania to Congo on Lake Tanganyika capsized Thursday, leaving at least 41 people dead, local authorities said.
坦噶尼喀省交通部长诺里斯·穆隆戈伊表示，该船载有约100人及货物，目前已有49人获救，搜救工作仍在进行中。
The boat was carrying about 100 people as well as cargo, said Norris Mulongoyi, the provincial transport minister for Tanganyika province, adding that 49 people have been rescued and a search is ongoing for the remaining passengers.
穆隆戈伊告诉美联社，这艘船从坦桑尼亚基戈马出发，前往刚果坦噶尼喀省的卡莱米市，在马佩拉村附近倾覆。坦噶尼喀湖是世界第一大淡水湖，深度仅次于贝加尔湖。
“The vessel, traveling from Kigoma, Tanzania, to the city of Kalemie in the Congo’s Tanganyika province, capsized near the village of Mapera,” Mulongoyi told The Associated Press. Lake Tanganyika is the world’s largest freshwater lake and the second deepest, after Lake Baikal.
事故原因尚不明确，但近年来刚果多次发生船难，造成数百人死亡，原因多为超载及缺乏救生衣。
The cause for Thursday’s tragedy was not immediately clear, but hundreds have been killed in boat disasters in Congo in recent years. Vessels are often overloaded and lacking life jackets.

Congo’s rivers are a major means of transport for its more than 100 million people, especially in remote areas where infrastructure is poor or nonexistent.
