SINGAPORE: A woman was charged on Friday (Sep 25) with participating in public assemblies to support the Falun Gong spiritual group at Merlion Park and Anderson Bridge without a permit.
62岁的黄彩慧（音译）面临六项指控，涉嫌在2024年10月至2026年2月期间无准证参与公众集会。
Ng Chye Huay, 62, faces six charges for allegedly participating in public assemblies without a permit from October 2024 to February 2026.
警方在另一份新闻稿中表示，这名新加坡籍女子曾于2001年、2005年和2007年因同类罪行被定罪。2020年7月，她还因同类罪行收到了一份为期12个月的严厉警告。
The Singaporean was convicted of similar offences in 2001, 2005 and 2007. In July 2020, she was also issued a 12-month warning for the same type of offence, the police said in a separate press release.
警方表示，尽管有这些前科和有条件警告，这名女子“仍然冥顽不灵”，涉嫌继续无准证参与公众集会。
Despite these past convictions and the conditional warning, the woman “remained recalcitrant” and allegedly continued to participate in public assemblies without a permit, the police said.

In court on Friday, Ng’s lawyer said his client is disputing all charges and indicated that she will be pleading not guilty. Her case is next set for a pre-trial conference on October 26.

China outlawed Falun Gong in 1999. While it is not illegal in Singapore, any public protest with at least five people without a police permit is against the law.

“The police will not grant permits for assemblies that advocate the political causes of other countries or foreign entities that may stir emotions and lead to public order incidents,” it said in the press release.

The police will take action when people breach the Public Order Act, including those who repeatedly break the law, they said.
警方补充说：“呼吁公众不要参与可能破坏新加坡和平、公共秩序和社会和谐的活动。”
“Members of the public are urged not to engage in activities that may undermine the peace, public order and social harmony in Singapore,” the police added.
根据《公共秩序法》，该罪行的最高刑罚为最高3,000新加坡元（合2,300美元）的罚款。
The maximum punishment for the offence under the Public Order Act is a fine of up to S$3,000 (US$2,300).
