Industry leaders say India's manufacturing journey has moved well beyond the import-dependent model of a decade ago, with sectors such as electronics and air conditioning developing domestic capabilities. However, they see significant work ahead, including greater localisation of components, stronger participation by smaller companies, more investment in research and design, higher exports and reduced dependence on policy incentives over time.
