Jason Miller, a longtime Trump adviser, has also moved into a senior messaging role — although he did so before Leavitt left.

The president’s original plan was to add Miller to his team in the first term, when the longtime Republican operative was named as the White House communications director. That didn’t quite work out. As The Washington Post reported: Trump had initially appointed Miller as his communications director after winning his 2016 campaign. After allegations broke of an extramarital affair with a Trump campaign staff member, Miller announced he would not accept the White House role. Miller, who was married, later confirmed he was fathering a son born to the staffer and remained with his wife.

After Trump lost, Miller shifted into a lobbying role, even becoming aed foreign agent before ultimately taking on White House responsibilities that he was supposed to have a decade ago.
