Grey Helm Capital, Axar Capital Management, Cerberus Capital Management and Contrarian Capital Management are among the creditors that are holding confidential talks to hash out a restructuring plan, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing a private matter. Conversations are centering around lenders possibly taking over the business after a potential Chapter 11 process, they said.

Chief Executive Officer Jason McDonell acknowledged the company’s challenges on last month’s earnings call, noting Leslie’s had been “exploring strategic alternatives” to drive growth. The company reported revenue of $458.5 million in the three months that ended July 4, down 8.4% from a year earlier, and listed about $786.7 million of long-term debt. Its $756.7 million term loan due in 2028 is quoted at about 21 cents on the dollar, down from around 39 cents on Aug. 4, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
