中国周一表示，下一任联合国秘书长应当“称职、公正、正直”，并维护《联合国宪章》。
China said Monday that the next UN secretary-general should be “competent, impartial and upright” and uphold the UN Charter.
中国外交部发言人郭嘉昆在北京举行的记者会上表示：“联合国秘书长的选举关系联合国的改革与发展，以及成员国的切身利益。”
“The election of the UN secretary-general bears on the reform and development of the UN and the vital interests of member states,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters in Beijing.
他是在回应关于正在进行的遴选进程以及北京能否说明支持哪位候选人的提问时作出上述表示的。
He was responding to questions about the ongoing selection process and whether Beijing could say which candidate it was supporting.
郭嘉昆还被问及有关北京正在权衡是否支持哥斯达黎加经济学家、联合国贸易和发展会议（贸发会议）负责人雷贝卡·格林斯潘，或圭亚那驻联合国大使卡罗琳·罗德里格斯·伯凯特的媒体报道。
Guo was also asked about media reports that Beijing was weighing whether to support Rebeca Grynspan, Costa Rican economist who heads UN Trade and Development, or Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, Guyana’s ambassador to the UN.

The process to select the next UN chief is underway, with the successful candidate set to take office on Jan. 1, 2027. Seven candidates remain in the race.
郭嘉昆说：“中国支持根据《联合国宪章》的规定选举新任秘书长，（该人选）应遵守《联合国宪章》，恪守《联合国宪章》，具备杰出的能力，公正无私，正直尽责。”
“China supports this election of the new secretary general, in accordance with the provisions of the UN Charter, one (who) observes the UN Charter, abides by the UN Charter, has outstanding competence, is impartial, and upright (and) fulfills responsibility with dedication,” said Guo.
他表示，中国“将与有关各方一道，以负责任的方式参与秘书长选举进程”。据专注于联合国的新闻网站PassBlue报道，在联合国安理会9月18日进行的最新一轮匿名意向投票中，哥斯达黎加的格林斯潘以9张“鼓励”票领先。圭亚那的罗德里格斯·伯凯特以8票紧随其后。
He said China “will work with all relevant parties to participate in the secretary-general election process in a responsible manner.” According to PassBlue, a news website focused on the UN, Costa Rica’s Grynspan led the latest anonymous straw poll conducted by the UN Security Council on Sept. 18, with nine “encourage” votes. Guyana’s Rodrigues Birkett followed with eight.

Olara Otunnu, Rafael Grossi, Macky Sall, Maria Fernanda Espinosa and Ivonne A-Baki are also in the race.
