In a statement, DWC Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) criticized the GOP-backed One Big Beautiful Act and said her 97-member caucus is proposing a “different kind of financial future: one that puts mothers and working families first.”Women’s earnings were 83.6 percent of men’s as of 2023, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The unemployment rate for women in August, 3.9 percent, was lower than it was for men, 4.4 percent, per BLS data President Trump earlier this month pledged to provide every American adult with a $5,000 dividend if Republicans maintain control of Congress in November.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-Mich.) own dividend proposals are included in the DWC’s agenda. The Michigan Democrat has introduced legislation to provide $250 per month to adults ages 19 to 67 and provide new families with a $2,000 “baby bonus.”Tlaib said in a statement her proposals will “help ensure that every woman, child and family has the resources to succeed” in the U.S.
