Lee spoke on Tuesday at the opening of a third comprehensive gathering of public and private sector actors involved in the 800 trillion won ($589 billion) megaproject that involves semiconductors, AI data centers and physical AI. The president talked about the need to "organically" connect existing semiconductor hubs with the envisioned cluster of facilities in the country's historically less-developed southwest. The main contents of the meeting were closed to media and Lee did not cite any specific developments in the planning of the cluster.

Also, two of Lee's nominees for ministerial posts voluntarily withdrew from consideration due to public backlash, which eased pressure on him.
