The UN refugee agency on Tuesday voiced concern over Malaysia's reported plans to return around 1,500 Myanmar nationals, warning that ongoing conflict and widespread rights violations make safe returns impossible.

UNHCR spokesperson Matthew Saltmarsh told journalists in Geneva that, according to the agency's latest information, the individuals had not yet left Malaysia and last-minute appeals were underway. "This is a very fluid situation," Saltmarsh said.
他补充道：“我们对据报即将遣返的约1500人感到担忧……缅甸各地持续存在武装冲突、广泛的暴力行为和人权侵犯。”
"We are concerned by the reported imminent return of some 1,500 individuals ..., with ongoing armed conflict and widespread violence and human rights violations across Myanmar," he added.
索尔茨马什强调，联合国难民署认为，缅甸目前的状况不允许进行“安全、有尊严且可持续的返回”。
UNHCR maintains that current conditions in Myanmar do not permit "safe, dignified, and sustainable returns," Saltmarsh stressed.
他说：“根据国际法，任何人都不应被遣返至可能面临迫害、酷刑、严重伤害或对其生命、自由和安全构成其他威胁的国家。”
"Under international law, no one should be sent to a country where they may face persecution, torture, serious harm, or other threats to life, liberty, and security," he said.

Saltmarsh added that UNHCR remains committed to engaging with the Malaysian government through technical support, policy dialogue and capacity building to develop accessible and effective protection measures.
