President Trump put Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) in the spotlight Wednesday as he announced a $54 billion investment in a project to export natural gas from Alaska. The project is part of a $200 billion investment from South Korea into the U.S. for projects including the LNG project, eight nuclear power plants and a 6-gigawatt power generation facility in Texas.

He called Sullivan a “great” senator and said, “he’s been working on this deal and other deals in Alaska…for almost 20 years.”“So, I want to thank, in particular, Dan Sullivan for getting this deal done,” he said. Sullivan, for his part, said he has worked “relentlessly” for this project in Alaska.

Trump went on to rail against the other Republican Senate candidate in Alaska, also named Dan Sullivan. “For five decades, politicians have talked about the Alaska pipeline. I've been hearing about it from the time I'm a little boy,” Trump said. “I was always fascinated by it, but today, with the help of Senator Dan S. Sullivan, and don't get it confused with anybody else. Remember, they put up a fake. It's a fake Sullivan — guy knows nothing.”

Trump said it was the Democrats who got Dan J. Sullivan on the ballot, even though he’s running as a Republican. The two Sullivans are running against Rep. Mary Peltola (D) in November. Some Republicans in Alaska have tried to get Dan J. Sullivan off the primary ballot and disqualify his campaign, but to no avail. Dan J. Sullivan has admitted to voting Democrat in the past but has also denied accusations that he is a Democratic plant.
