A friendly match between Palestine’s reserve national football team and Turkish club Konyaspor was the culmination of efforts to highlight the Palestinian people’s resilience, Palestinian sports official Jibril Rajoub said Thursday.

Rajoub, head of the Palestinian Higher Council for Youth and Sports, said Wednesday’s match also aimed to improve the Palestinian team’s skills, “and that is what happened.”The most important message, he added, was “keeping hope alive among Palestinians” until the day the Palestinian national team can play in occupied Jerusalem.

He said Konya hosted political, social and sporting events Wednesday in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

He added that the Palestinian team experienced “an atmosphere of comfort, stability and hope” at Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium.

The friendly formed part of Palestine Day events under Konya’s program as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Youth Capital for 2026, with the participation of Türkiye’s Youth and Sports Ministry, Konya Municipality and the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum.
