Goksel Yildirim, Kaan Ulu, and Emir Yildirim Turkish Aerospace Industries’ (TAI) engine-manufacturing subsidiary TEI is preparing to deliver domestically developed prototype engines for TAI’s Gokbey helicopter and Baykar’s Bayraktar Kizilelma unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the firm’s general manager told Anadolu.

Mahmut Faruk Aksit, speaking on the sidelines of TEKNOFEST Southeast, said the “TEI-TS1400” engine had reached flight maturity, with mass-production units already manufactured.

Türkiye’s premier technology, defense and aviation event TEKNOFEST’s southeastern leg kicked off Wednesday in the province of Sanliurfa, gathering tech enthusiasts, young investors and thousands of visitors through Oct. 14. Anadolu is its global communications partner.

“The next certification phase will allow the Gokbey to be equipped with the homegrown engine and enter mass production for customers and military inventories -- it takes time and we need to go through many tests, as currently some eight different engines are being subjected to parallel testing,” Aksit said.
他表示，高优先级的“TEI-TF6000”喷气推进发动机也已完成运行测试并达到可飞行状态，计划于今年年底或明年初交付给巴伊卡尔。
He said the high-priority “TEI-TF6000” jet propulsion engine had also completed operational tests and reached flight readiness, with delivery to Baykar planned by the end of this year or early next year.

TEI also aims to have its more powerful “TEI-TF10000” engine fully operational before the end of next year following this delivery.

Aksit noted that the firm had expanded its engineering and research and development (R&D) capabilities from roughly 80 personnel a decade ago to nearly 1,300 engineers today, while its total engineering workforce is approaching 2,000.

Aksit said TEI continues to work on existing export contracts with an undisclosed but technologically advanced country, while beginning sales talks with a second foreign customer.

He noted that the firm’s diesel aviation engines are currently used by UAVs including the Bayraktar TB3, Aksungur and Anka platforms.
