Israeli President Isaac Herzog called President Donald Trump Israel’s “No. 1 friend” Thursday, downplaying strains between the two countries over the Iran war. “First of all, we have many friends. I think President Trump is the No. 1 friend,” Herzog told Axel Springer Global Reporters Network’s Jan Philipp Burgard.

Vice President JD Vance, who privately opposed the war in Iran, said last month that Washington cannot allow its foreign policy to be “subservient to the state of Israel.”Trump called Netanyahu “crazy” during a phone call months earlier.
