WASHINGTON—Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he is giving U.S. servicemembers a day off this month to vote in the midterm elections, in which Republicans are fighting to maintain control of both the House and Senate.

“We’re not telling you who to vote for, but we will give you every opportunity to do so. It’s then up to you to exercise your right as an American to choose your elected leaders,” Hegseth said in a video posted on X on Friday.
