By Sana Pashankar SpaceX has agreed to buy a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio, the Elon Musk-led company said on Thursday, sending shares of incumbent mobile carriers down more than 5%.
该公司表示，此次收购将助力其借助Starlink卫星服务跻身美国主要移动运营商行列。受此影响，多家大型手机服务商的股价在盘后交易中走低：截至纽约时间下午4点29分，AT&T Inc.下跌5.7%，T-Mobile US Inc.下跌5.9%，Verizon Communications Inc.则下跌5.3%。
The deal will enable SpaceX to use its Starlink satellite service to become a major mobile carrier in the US, the company said on Shares of major mobile phone service providers dropped in post-market trading. AT&T Inc. fell 5.7%, T-Mobile US Inc. declined 5.9% and Verizon Communications Inc. sank 5.3% as of 4:29 p.m. in New York.
SpaceX称，待获得美国联邦通信委员会批准后，公司将把卫星蜂窝网络服务与地面网络相整合，从而实现全地域的设备连接。
SpaceX said that once it receives approval from the Federal Communications Commission, it will combine its satellite-to-cell services with a terrestrial network that can connect devices everywhere.
此次获得的低频段频谱已被绝大多数移动设备所支持，这将使SpaceX能够提供可穿透墙体、覆盖室内环境的手机服务。
The new spectrum, which most mobile devices already support, allows the company to provide cell service that can penetrate walls and provide service to devices indoors.
