Shane Seiber, 40, was killed early on Saturday morning in West Philadelphia according to the city's police commissioner, Kevin Bethel.

Seiber, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia police department, and the other officer were transported to the Penn Presbyterian medical center, where the surviving officer underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition, Bethel said. Bethel also said a suspect was in custody.

Citing law enforcements sources, the Philadelphia Inquirer identified that suspect as Eric Lewis. The Inquirer also reported that Lewis, 35, was employed by Philadelphia's municipal water department.
