HANOI -- Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has established a new company to invest and trade in oil and gas, marking its entry into an energy market long dominated by state-controlled businesses.

Vin Oil&Gas Global Joint Stock Company, or VOG, was established on Sept. 25 with chartered capital of 1 trillion dong ($38.5 million), according to a Vingroup filing with regulators. Vingroup holds a 51% stake in the new firm.

The company has not disclosed specific projects or operations it plans to pursue.
