IRDAI Chairman Ajay Seth has raised concerns over the sharp rise in insurance distribution costs, citing steep increases in commissions paid to large distributors.
Speaking exclusively to CNBC-TV18, Seth said commissions at one distributor had risen from about 8% to 24% in three years, while another had increased from 6-7% to 38%.
He also pointed to a large distributor with post-tax profit of 44% of its commission income and questioned whether policyholders were receiving greater value as costs increased.
