The Whitney New York It is unusual to see a traveling exhibition at two venues—rarer still to find each setting evoking such a different facet of an artist’s sensibility. That was my experience with “The Lost World: The Art of Minnie Evans” a retrospective of about 100 oil paintings and mixed-media drawings by Evans (1892-1987), a self-taught African-American artist. Though featured in Newsweek in 1969 and given a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1975, she remains little known.
