U.S. Central Command will hold a daylong conference at its Tampa headquarters after seven months of war in Iran.

The U.S. military command in charge of waging the war against Iran will hold a daylong conference this month to discuss ways to limit civilian casualties during combat operations, according to a former Pentagon official and three officials from groups that focus on the issue.

The event, to be held at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Fla., will include intelligence analysts and operational staff who prepare military targets, two of the officials said.

Other attendees will include former staff members from a Pentagon initiative created to limit civilian harm that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth decided to shut down early in his tenure, one of the officials said.

The conference, which has not been previously reported, will feature speakers who have previously advised the Defense Department on how to limit civilian casualties, three of the officials said. The four officials spoke on the condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the event.

More than 1,700 Iranian civilians have been killed in the conflict, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, a rights group focused on Iran. The U.S. military has struck more than 15,000 targets in Iran since the United States and Israel began the war seven months ago.

U.S. Central Command, which directs all military operations in the Middle East, said the conference was in the planning stages.
