Ghana awarded 5G spectrum and a license to Telecel Group after the government ended the exclusive rights of a state-backed wholesale provider that partnered with Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd.
Telecel首席执行官Moh Damush在接受采访时表示：“我们计划在今年12月在自己的网络上推出该服务。”
“We plan to launch the service in December this year on our own network,” Telecel Chief Executive Officer Moh Damush said in an interview.
在加纳因推出延迟而提前撤销原定于2034年到期的Next Gen Infraco独家特许权后，Telecel成为竞标该牌照的竞标者之一。信实旗下的Radisys公司此前被选中提供网络基础设施。
Telecel was among the bidders for the license after Ghana revoked the exclusive concession granted to Next Gen Infraco ahead of its scheduled expiry in 2034 because of rollout delays. Radisys Corp., a unit of Reliance, had been selected to provide the network infrastructure.

As of March, just 49 5G sites were operational, well short of the government’s target of 1,200 by 2027.

The license will allow Telecel to carry more data traffic, improve service quality and roll out faster broadband products as demand for video streaming, cloud services and digital financial products increase across a continent with the world’s youngest and fastest-growing population.
