Belgian federal police are investigating former Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt over his supervision of interns in the European Parliament, according to media reports Sunday.
据比利时通讯社Belga援引荷兰语周刊《Knack》的报道，联邦警察是受欧洲检察官办公室（EPPO）的委托开展此项调查的。
Federal police are conducting the investigation on behalf of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), Belga news agency reported, citing Dutch-language weekly Knack magazine.
报道还称，欧洲反欺诈办公室（OLAF）也参与了今年初启动的这项调查。
The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) is also involved in the investigation, which began at the start of this year, according to the report.
目前，调查人员正在核查费尔霍夫施塔特在担任前自由派团体（ALDE）主席期间，是如何指导欧洲议会实习生的。
Authorities are examining how Verhofstadt supervised interns in the European Parliament, particularly during his time as chair of the former liberal group (ALDE).
费尔霍夫施塔特于2009年至2019年间担任该职务，并于2024年离开欧洲议会。
Verhofstadt held the position from 2009 to 2019 and left the European Parliament in 2024.
他的律师克里斯汀·穆什与昆滕·德凯尔斯梅克向《Knack》表示：“OLAF仅向我们的当事人询问了有关欧洲议会若干实习生指导工作的情况，但他作为团体主席并未亲自参与其中。”
“OLAF has only asked our client for information about the supervision of a number of interns in the European Parliament, with which he was not personally involved as group chair,” his lawyers, Christine Mussche and Quinten De Keersmaecker, told Knack.
两位律师还补充道：“目前费尔霍夫施塔特尚未接受讯问，现阶段也没有针对他的具体指控。他正在全力配合调查。”
They added: “Verhofstadt has not yet been questioned, and no specific allegation has been made against him at this stage. He is cooperating fully.”
