Bank, a privately held commercial bank in Kyrgyzstan, has opened an office in Hong Kong, becoming the first Central Asian lender to gain a license in the financial hub. The lender was granted a restricted banking license, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced Monday. This will be the bank’s first international office.

It will focus on providing trade finance services including payments, foreign exchange, bonds and guarantees for businesses in Central Asia and Asia Pacific.

“In Central Asia and Asia Pacific, the level of financial intermediation is negligible at best,” said Andreas Meletiou, chief executive officer of Bakai Bank Hong Kong.

Meletiou表示，该行将首先专注于中国与中亚之间电动汽车和技术设备等消费品的贸易，并补充称，中亚街头的中国汽车仅在几年前还是“几乎为零”，现在却“全是中国电动汽车”。
The lender will start by focusing on the trade of consumer goods such as electric vehicles and technology equipment between China and Central Asia, Meletiou said, adding that the streets of Central Asia went from “almost zero” Chinese cars just a couple of years ago to being “full of Chinese electric vehicles.”
巴凯银行目前已为其位于鲗鱼涌太古坊一座的办事处招聘了35名员工。员工涵盖客户覆盖、销售、产品、资金和后台运营等职能。
Bakai has hired 35 people so far for their office at One Taikoo Place in Quarry Bay. The staff cover coverage, sales, products, treasury and back office operations.
