KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's Top Glove on Tuesday reported a near tripling of its annual net profit as stronger demand for rubber gloves helped it pass rising material costs on to customers.

The world's largest rubber glove maker posted a net profit of 308 million ringgit ($75.4 million) for the year ended in August, compared with 105.3 million ringgit the previous year. The group's revenue rose 21% to 4.23 billion ringgit.

The prices of its main raw materials -- including nitrile latex, a petroleum-derived synthetic rubber -- and natural rubber latex soared as a result of the Middle East conflict that intensified earlier this year. But the crisis also led customers to stockpile its products, enabling the company to raise prices "The improvement reflected the benefits of higher sales volume, improved operational efficiency, higher employee productivity and disciplined pricing," corporate director Lim Cheong Guan said during a results briefing.

Much of the annual earnings growth came in the final quarter, when net profit more than quadrupled to 157.6 million ringgit from a year earlier, accounting for just over half of the full-year total. Revenue in the three months increased 40% year on year to 1.25 billion ringgit.

Joint managing director Lim Jin Feng said some U.S. customers had accumulated substantial stocks during the initial Middle East disruption and waited for prices to fall before replenishing them.

With demand strengthening, Top Glove said it plans to increase glove production. It aims to raise running capacity -- annual production capacity of the lines in operation, excluding idle lines -- to 78 billion gloves by the end of fiscal 2027 from the current 72 billion.

Looking ahead, corporate director Lim said a more balanced global glove market should support further margin recovery, although higher energy costs and manpower constraints remain challenges.

Top Glove expects global demand to exceed 400 billion gloves in 2026 and plans to adjust selling prices in line with raw material costs while improving efficiency and automation.

"Our order books are healthy despite upward adjustments in average selling price," Lim said. He urged the authorities to address manpower shortages, saying this would "enable us to reactivate more idle capacity and better meet the rising glove demand."
