Public prosecutors sought a 12-year prison term Wednesday for a man accused of attempted murder for allegedly attacking Takashi Tachibana, head of a political group criticizing NHK, in March last year. Tokyo District Court is scheduled to sentence Shion Miyanishi, 32, on Friday.
在结案陈词中，检方指出，宫西袭击59岁的立花是因为他认为立花的行为导致了兵库县议会一名前议员的自杀。目前，立花正因被指控诽谤该前议员而接受审判。他出席了当天的庭审，并要求严惩宫西，称后者很可能再次犯罪。
In its closing argument, the prosecution emphasized that Miyanishi assaulted Tachibana, 59, because he believed that Tachibana’s behavior caused the suicide of a former member of the assembly of Hyogo Prefecture. Tachibana, who is currently on trial for allegedly defaming the former Hyogo assembly member, attended the day’s court hearing and requested a severe punishment for Miyanishi, saying that he would likely reoffend.
同时，作为政治人士的立花也表示遗憾，认为自己给了宫西袭击自己的理由。
At the same time, Tachibana expressed regret as a politician for providing Miyanishi with a reason to attack him.
辩护方则认为5年刑期已足够，并称宫西不会重犯，理应获得改过自新的机会。
The defense said that a five-year sentence is appropriate for the accused, adding that he will not repeat the same crime and should be allowed to rehabilitate in society.
起诉书显示，去年3月14日，宫西在东京 Kasumigaseki 区的经济产业省外的人行道上，用一把16厘米长的砍刀砍伤了立花的头部，导致后者受伤，需三周时间才能康复。
According to the indictment, Miyanishi cut Tachibana’s head with a 16-centimeter machete on a sidewalk outside the industry ministry in Tokyo’s Kasumigaseki district on March 14 last year, leaving him with injuries that would take three weeks to heal.
