Aerospace and defence manufacturer Hical Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with Safran Aerosystems to explore setting up a joint venture in India to manufacture systems for the Dassault Rafale programme. The proposed venture will manufacture complex fuel and fluid systems and related assemblies for Rafale aircraft being delivered under the Make in India initiative. The partnership would expand Hical’s role in the Rafale supply chain and build on its existing work with Dassault Aviation on control systems for the programme.
From control systems to complex equipmentThe proposed joint venture will focus on manufacturing equipment for Rafale aircraft in India as the two companies look to expand their collaboration in aerospace and defence manufacturing.“This proposed partnership reflects Safran Aerosystems’ continued commitment to India and to the development of its private-sector aerospace ecosystem,” Joel Berkoukchi, CEO of the Fluid & Fuel Systems Division at Safran Aerosystems, said.
He said the Rafale programme would require greater depth and scale in the supply chain, adding that Hical’s expanding manufacturing capacity, including its new facility in Devanahalli, would support the production of complex fuel and fluid systems and other critical equipment in India.
The MoU builds on Hical’s existing involvement in the Rafale programme. The company has been selected to work directly with Dassault Aviation on control systems for the aircraft. The proposed venture would allow Hical to move into the manufacture of more complex systems and expand the range of components it produces for aerospace programmes in India.
Devanahalli facility adds manufacturing capacityThe announcement comes after Hical inaugurated a new aerospace manufacturing facility in Devanahalli, near Bengaluru, as part of its plan to expand manufacturing capacity for aerospace and defence programmes.“This MoU marks an important milestone for Hical as we move into more complex systems manufacturing for demanding aerospace platforms such as Rafale,” Yashas Jaiveer, Managing Director of Hical Technologies, said.“By combining Safran Aerosystems’ technology leadership with Hical’s growing manufacturing footprint in India, we aim to support the Make in India vision and demonstrate that critical aerospace systems can be designed, industrialised and produced competitively in India for the world,” he added.
