Tata Power said on Wednesday that it has partnered with Norway-based renewable energy technology company Ocean Sun to test its membrane-based floating solar technology in India. Under the collaboration, the companies will undertake a nearly 300 kWp floating solar pilot at Tata Power’s Mulshi reservoir in Maharashtra. The pilot will assess the technology’s performance, reliability, cost competitiveness and scalability under Indian conditions.

It will also compare the technology with conventional floating solar systems on energy generation, capacity utilisation, installation time and method, operations and maintenance requirements, capital costs and overall commercial viability. The pilot is expected to provide operating insights that could help assess the technology’s potential for wider deployment in India. According to Tata Power, estimates by the National Institute of Solar Energy put India’s floating solar potential at more than 102 GWp.“At Tata Power, innovation is central to accelerating India’s clean energy transition. The collaboration agreement was signed on the sidelines of the second India–EFTA Prosperity Summit, which brought together stakeholders from India and European Free Trade Association countries. Shares of Tata Power Company Ltd closed at ₹344.80 on October 7, down 1.95% from the previous close.
