President Trump took to Truth Social Thursday to encourage Alaska voters to vote for the Republican ticket in November and criticized the state’s voting system in the process.

Trump questioned why there are three Republicans facing off against one Democrat in the November governor election, calling the system “stupid.”Alaskans approved a ballot measure in 2020 to create a non-partisan primary election system where the top four vote getters advance to a general election tallied with ranked-choice voting.

In November, Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins will face off against Republicans David Bronson, Treg Taylor, and Bernadette Wilson to be the next governor of Alaska. In the Senate race, former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska) will face off against incumbent Sen. Dan S. Sullivan (R-Alaska), Republican Gerald Heikes and Dan J. Sullivan, who holds no party affiliation.

Trump will travel to Alaska next week for a rally in Wasilla aimed to boost support for Republicans. Alaskans will have the opportunity to repeal the top-four, ranked choice voting system via a ballot measure in November, which Trump supports. A previous effort to repeal the system narrowly failed in 2024.

Trump also voiced his support for the incumbent Sullivan and Republican Nick Begich, who is running for the at-large House seat. The Alaska senate race has become competitive in the historically red state as Decision Desk HQ(DDHQ) forecasts the race “leans in favor” of Peltola. DDHQ said Begich is likely to win the House seat.
