TOKYO -- Fujitsu has signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. state of New Mexico to establish a quantum computing research center, the Japanese technology group announced Friday, aiming to advance cutting-edge research in the field and cultivate specialized talent.
The research center will provide an environment where students and researchers can work together to explore commercialization opportunities through research projects, internships and workforce development programs.
Fujitsu is also considering joint research projects with universities and research institutions in the state, including Sandia National Laboratories. The company and New Mexico State University have been conducting joint research related to Fujitsu's Monaka central processing unit and high-performance computing technologies under an October 2025 memorandum of understanding. Going forward, they will explore systems that combine quantum computing, artificial intelligence and classical computing technologies.
Fujitsu also signed a memorandum of understanding in the quantum field this July with Australia's Monash University and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
