With the deal, Credit Agricole will gain a bigger foothold in the German mid-corporate banking market, according to a statement Monday, that didn’t disclose a price.

The bank said the deal was consistent with the French bank’s return-on-investment targets, and will have a roughly 20 basis point negative impact on Credit Agricole’s CET1 ratio.

IKB was one of the European banks hit badly by the subprime crisis almost two decades ago and was later rescued by a group that included a state-owned develeopment bank.

In 2008, Lone Star struck a deal to buy a more than 90% stake in the German lender.

Lone Star has made several attempts over the years to exit Düsseldorf-based IKB. Credit Agricole was among bidders eyeing the bank, Bloomberg News reported in May.

IKB has about 600 employees and six regional offices across Germany. The firm had a loan book of €8.2 billion at the end of 2025.
