A trailblazing former San Francisco deputy police chief is dead, alongside her daughter in an apparent murder-suicide carried out by her husband, a retired police sergeant, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

"The preliminary investigation indicates a suspected double-murder suicide involving three individuals," Miguel Almaguer, the Marin County Sheriff's public information officer, said in a statement. "The suspected shooter is male." Speaking later at a news briefing, he specifically identified Kevin Mannix as the shooter and said he could not discuss any evidence found in the home.
