Al Muhairi, group deputy chief executive officer at Mubadala Investment Co., downplayed concerns that the historic ruling against Manchester City Football Club would deter investments into the UK.

“I think that’s its own separate process,” he said at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi when asked if the ruling would impact investments into the UK. “We have been and continue to deploy in the United Kingdom and what goes into our calculus for where we deploy are partnerships, risk-reward and what makes sense over time.”In recent weeks, Abu Dhabi-owned Manchester City was found guilty of all but one of 115 charges brought against it by England’s Premier League after a four-year investigation. The football club has appealed the decision.

The $385 billion Mubadala is one of Abu Dhabi’s three wealth funds and among its most prolific spenders. The entity led the Sovereign Investment Partnership with the UK signed in 2021.

Its deployment of capital within the United Arab Emirates is unchanged despite the Iran war, Al Muhairi said, with around 25% of its investments being deployed locally. “That percentage will remain for us as a firm. But other entities are more inward looking,” he added The US still has the best risk-reward ratio of any other large economy, Al Muhairi said. “That’s why 42% of our capital is there, and I feel comfortable in saying that at least in the short-to-medium term, it will remain the case.”Al Muhairi was also recently appointed as a member of the board of L’imad Holding, Abu Dhabi’s newest sovereign wealth fund.
