Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday made a reference to a 1812 U.S.-British battle in which forces from the United Kingdom were victorious.

“On this day in 1812,” Carney said in a post on the social platform X that also featured a photo of a small sculpture of what appears to be a British soldier.

The fight was over a part of what is known as the Niagara escarpment, with the British victorious in the end. At the time, Canada was controlled by the British.
