OpenAI’s head of computing capacity is leaving the company next month after about a year, the latest leadership change at a unit that plans to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the coming years.

Sachin Katti joined OpenAI in late 2025 to rein in its ambitious Stargate data center effort, which got off to a slow start after the company failed to reach a deal with SoftBank and Oracle. Instead, OpenAI forged deals with the firms separately, and Katti struck additional computing agreements with providers such as Amazon Web Services to shore up OpenAI’s capacity.

OpenAI plans to inform employees about the departure on Wednesday, and Katti is expected to stay on as an adviser, according to people familiar with the matter.
