'International community must take a more determined stance against Israel,' says Zeki Akturk Türkiye expects the US to lift CAATSA sanctions and "all direct or indirect restrictions" on its defense industry, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said Thursday, as talks continue with the US over the delivery of six F-35 fighter jets produced for Türkiye.

“As we have said before, our expectation is the lifting of CAATSA sanctions, which are incompatible with the spirit of alliance, and all direct or indirect restrictions on our defense industry,” ministry spokesperson Zeki Akturk said in a statement responding to reporters’ questions following its weekly press briefing, referring to the US law known as the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

The ministry said contacts with US officials continue, expressing hope that the process will conclude positively in line with the two countries’ alliance ties and mutual interests.

Türkiye’s potential military contribution to Saudi Arabia Akturk said any Turkish military contribution to Saudi Arabia under the new Mecca Defense Alliance would be determined in accordance with the Turkish Constitution and relevant legislation.

Akturk added that Türkiye on Thursday handed over command of the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) to Italy, following its second turn at the helm, which began last October.

Israel continues to carry out attacks and make provocative statements that threaten regional security and stability, Akturk said, calling on the international community to take a firmer stance against Israel.

“We once again stress that the international community must take a more determined stance against Israel” to end its attacks and prevent further suffering among Palestinians, he said.
