(NewsNation) — Reps. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., and Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., who sit on opposite sides of the aisle, said the Jeffrey Epstein investigation remains unfinished. They vowed to keep pressing for answers no matter which party controls the House next year.
The two lawmakers joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday to discuss survivor access to records and government transparency. Cuomo asked whether the effort has effectively ended, given that Attorney General Todd Blanche said the DOJ’s review of the Epstein files was “over.”Mace said a discharge petition dubbed “Epstein 2.0.” is two signatures short of what it needs. If it clears the House, she said, “it will allow survivors to get their documents from the investigation.”She added it would also allow state attorneys general, including New Mexico’s, to investigate if federal officials decline to.

Subramanyam said the work would continue if Democrats take control. “We’re going to enforce our subpoenas,” he said, adding Democrats would also subpoena people who have dodged questions. He said many earlier interviews were voluntary and not conducted under oath, and only some witnesses refused to answer certain questions and hand over documents. “We’re only scraping the surface,” he said.
Cuomo proposed bringing survivors before the committee in a closed session to identify who was present. Mace said she would support it. “In that context, they would be safe and I would 100% support it,” she said.
Both lawmakers said survivors fear defamation suits from rich and powerful men. Mace said she filed a bill Monday that would cover legal fees for survivors who win such cases. Subramanyam said the problem reaches beyond this investigation. “We have to change the laws on the books that are right now against victims of sexual violence,” he said.
