On Chicago’s South Side, CNN Hero Dion Dawson is fighting food insecurity in his hometown by feeding people in a healthy, dignified way. His nonprofit, Dion’s Chicago Dream, employs dozens of community members who deliver more than 80,000 pounds of free, fresh produce every week to thousands of households. We would go to any pantry. We're in line hours before it even opens. We don't even know where we're gonna get. There was a lot of canned goods, ramen, and ultra-processed foods. I didn't have a favorite fruit growing up. I go into the Navy, and then I remember going to the pantry at the VA hospital.
