By Vinícius Andrade Erebor Bank is expanding in emerging markets by hiring Gary Stein from HSBC, where he was a managing director and head of Latin America foreign exchange trading, according to people familiar with the matter. Stein is set to start next week as head of emerging markets at Erebor, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public.

It counts some of Silicon Valley’s most prominent venture-capital firms among its backers, including Lux Capital, 8VC, Andreessen Horowitz and Thiel’s Founders Fund. A spokesperson for Erebor declined to provide further details, while HSBC declined to comment. Stein spent seven years at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., where he was a managing director, followed by a brief stint at Izzy Englander’s Millennium Management.
