The BBC revealed the attacks were ordered on behalf of Russia, with an anonymous handler known as EL promising payment to Carpiuc's accomplice, Roman Lavrynovych. Lavrynovych, a 22-year-old Ukrainian national, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in June.
