Public markets are going to be “the great corrector” for private companies with lofty valuations, according to CAVU Consumer Partners’ Rohan Oza.

“I think that private equity valuations have become unhinged because people have to deploy capital,” Oza, co-founder of the venture firm, said Saturday during an interview at a New York Diwali party.

Oza, whose firm is behind brands like Poppi and Vital Proteins, predicted there will be some “juggernaut winners” like SpaceX and Anthropic. He has exposure to the latter. But he added that a lot of other companies “are going to get washed out because public markets in the end set you straight. Whereas some of the private markets kind of reward bad behavior.”He isn’t alone in airing concerns about over-hyped private markets. Money managers are increasingly spooked by the vast amounts of debt taken on by tech giants, the risk of a web of interconnected deals and sky-high valuations that seem untethered to fundamentals.
