Students are being told that they can exclude Zionists from university societies by describing Zionism as racism in their constitutions, The Telegraph can reveal.

A pro-Palestinian student group at the University of Glasgow distributed flyers providing a template for how societies could deem Zionism a form of racism in their membership policies. The leaflets, distributed during a freshers’ fair and seen by The Telegraph, urge societies to join “the campaign to create a Zionist-free campus”.

The Glasgow University Justice for Palestine Society suggests that societies write in their equality statements: “[Name of society] will provide and promote equal opportunities. “Racism, Zionism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, and religious discrimination will not be tolerated and will be challenged. “Join the campaign to create a Zionist-free campus by amending your constitution. Adding an anti-Zionism clause to your constitution can create a Zionist-free environment and protect Palestinian/pro-Palestine members of your society.

“Zionism is a racist ideology that won’t be tolerated on our campus.”The Union of Jewish students described the campaign as “anti-Semitic” and “discriminatory”, and called for the university to take action against any students involved.
