(NEXSTAR) – If you’ve been meaning to get a passport but haven’t yet, you may want to hold out just a bit longer (unless you need one to travel, of course).

Late last month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that President Trump’s new artificial intelligence website will allow Americans to apply for passports online. During the same event, Rubio unveiled a new passport for Americans.

While it has always been on the cover – and will remain there – it will now follow you through the pages of the book.

The cover will change as well. A current passport cover, complete with the U.S. seal, “PASSPORT,” and “United States of America,” can be seen below on the left.

The seal will remain, but become larger, while “United States of America” will move to the top, according to the design presented by Rubio, seen on the right.

“I can see Americans sitting at airports all over the world, like why do people keep flipping through the page?”Rubio said. “Well, it’s a – it’s either this or some Game Boy for your kids to keep them entertained; they can flip the eagle around.”While applying online for a passport will be available next year, the new passport isn’t expected until 2028.

Earlier this year, the State Department unveiled a limited-edition “Patriot Passport” featuring President Trump’s likeness as part of the country’s semiquincentennial. Initially, they were only available at the State Department’s passport office in the District of Columbia but that expanded to two dozen offices in the U.S. in July.
