An F-22 Raptor controlled a YFQ-44A Collaborative Combat Aircraft, advancing the U.S. Air Force’s efforts to produce the service’s “loyal wingmen.”The F-22 completed airborne tactical command and in-flight control of a YFQ-44A Fury earlier this month, the Air Force announced.

The fighter jet’s pilot served as an airborne “quarterback” and gave high-level directives to an Anduril-made Fury CCA. The unmanned, semi-autonomous aircraft’s onboard autonomy software interpreted and executed the directives in real time, per the release, performing in-flight maneuvers and simulated combat tasks.

The service plans to use data from this event to inform software integration, developmental testing and further CCA concepts, the announcement says.
