Turkey’s market regulator has shut down three brokerages that ran funds now set to be liquidated, throwing hundreds of jobs in doubt and adding to the turmoil in the industry.

“The industry is already shrinking, and it’s reasonable to expect that contraction to deepen,” said Burak Cetinceker, chief executive at Strateji Portfoy Yonetimi AS in Istanbul. “Assets under management and revenues will decline, while costs will continue to rise. That will inevitably have an impact on employment.”He said it’s likely there will be takeover deals and firms exiting the business in the months ahead. Another brokerage, Info Yatirim Menkul Degerler AS, previously said it cut more than 50 jobs.

The suspensions show that the fund turmoil is still rippling through the broader industry. Some 131 funds with nearly half a million investors have been ordered into liquidation after asset managers Tera and Pusula, which had been producing unusually high returns, failed to meet some redemption requests.
