Attempts to tap her phone occurred twice during her position as a minister, and another time as a parliament member in recent weeks, Pannier-Runacher, said in a message to journalists Wednesday. Politico article wrote about the spying efforts earlier.

The attempts may be related to her push to reduce France’s reliance on fossil energies, including a recent bill proposal that aims to re-authorize exploration in French Guiana, Pannier-Runacher said.

Front line politicians, including President Emmanuel Macron, have been targeted in the past by attempts to tap their phones, according to an international investigation in 2021 led by the Paris-based not-for-profit Forbidden Stories. Paris prosecutors didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
