The local unit of German grocer Metro said it committed 1 billion rubles ($12.4 million) to Russia’s war effort a month after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered it be put into temporary administration.

The funds will be used to buy equipment, including communication devices and gear to combat drones, according to a statement released Friday.

In September, Putin placed Metro’s stores and properties under the management of JSC UK Torg Rus. It followed the temporary transfer of control over six plants owned by Swiss food producer Nestle SA and more than 200 stores operated by French grocer Auchan in Russia to little known AO L.E.V. Menedzhment.
