OJSC is exploring a potential initial public offering, according to people familiar with the matter, with London among the venues under consideration.

Armenia’s biggest lender has reached out to investment banks as it explores strategic options, including a possible listing, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. Plans are still preliminary and there’s no certainty that a transaction will take place, the people cautioned.

“An IPO represents a potential natural milestone in the bank’s future strategic development,” a representative for Ardshinbank said in a statement, adding that “for the time being,” the lender would focus on strengthening its position in Armenia and expanding its activities in international markets.

Ardshinbank was founded in 2003 by chairman Karen Safaryan, who is also its majority shareholder. The bank, which describes itself as Armenia’s largest by both assets and deposits, acquired HSBC Holdings Plc’s local operations in 2024. Ardshinbank had a book value of around $1.1 billion at the end of September, according to its latest financial disclosures.

The bank is the latest emerging market company to consider London as the UK capital seeks to attract international listings. Africa-focused mobile payments firm Airtel Money debuted in London earlier this month following the UK’s largest IPO in five years. Uzbek national investment fund UzNIF listed earlier in the year.

Should it proceed with a listing in London, Ardshinbank wouldn’t be the only bank from the Caucasus trading on the exchange. Lion Finance Group Plc, the parent of Bank of Georgia, is a member of the FTSE 100 index. The group trades at close to two times its book value, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
